DOUGLAS ALDEN: A16 Trifecta Finisher 2016-2017
START: December 24, 2016 at 1:00pm
FINISH: December 25, 2016 at 11:00am
How you Pulled it Off: We woke up Saturday morning and saw that a storm was dumping snow on Mt. Laguna. Our plans quickly changed from a quiet Christmas Eve spent at home as our family rallied for the adventure. We passed through the snow storm on I-8 as we headed out to Anza Borrego State Park and were excited to know that there would be lots of the white fluffy stuff when we returned to the Lagunas. In Anza Borrego we did a hike to the top of an unnamed hill and braced ourselves against the wind at the top. Next we headed back west to the Laguna Mountains and stopped for some sledding about 5 miles up Sunrise Highway from I-8. We braved the temperatures in the high 20's and blowing snow and sledded and played in the fresh fallen snow. The next day we headed to the beach on Christmas morning where we played with our dog.
Challenge Highlight: The highlight was sledding in the snow during the cold storm and managing to stay warm. There is nothing like riding down the hill in fresh powder.
