Decided to head up into the mountains with my pup Calvin in search of snow. After doing some research and picking up snowshoes from the West LA store, I decided to head up Angeles Crest Highway into the National Forest as I heard the highway was closed at 6,000ft with tons of trails that were still covered in fresh powder.
Fresh powder everywhere we looked
My buddy Josh decided to tag along so we hopped in the truck and started gaining elevation, which only took us 1 1/2 hours from beach to snow. We were happy to find that the highway was indeed closed but we were able to park and hike in to find some untouched trails.

Hiking down the highway to find some trails
Loving all this open space to run and explore
We ended up strapping on the snowshoes and hiked up a small trail letting the pup run and dive through the fresh snow.
First time on the PCT
Such an amazing day up in the mountains getting to use the MSR snowshoes for the first time and breaking in my new North Face Ventrix hoody. Even in the snow I was able to wear just a tee shirt and my Ventrix to stay perfectly warm.
Well deserved after a day of trekking
After a great hike we were able to grab a burger and beer at Newcomb's Ranch on our way back into LA.
