Ryan McKenzie & Friend preparing to climb Leonids

On Sunday morning at 8am a friend and I started the 2-mile approach which has a 1,800ft elevation gain.  We geared up for the Leonids which is a 3-pitch 5.9 route that goes up a granite slab about 350ft.

I led the first pitch and then had my climbing partner lead the next two.

After topping out the climb we then began our descent  by rappelling down our 70 meter rope at four different stations.  Some falcons that had set up next nearby could be heard and occasionally seen flying by.

TIPThe best time to go is early morning to beat the heat.

My two favorite pieces of gear for this climb are my La Sportiva Muira lace climbing shoes and my ATC guide belay device.
