Climb for Heroes 2018Posted by Adventure 16 | 05.07.2018
On 2018, Adventure 16 co-workers will again join the Climb for Heroes, and hike up Mt. Baldy to raise funds for The Heroes Project (THP). Founded by Mt. Everest Summiter "Big" Tim Medvetz in 2009, The Heroes Project is a foundation dedicated to helping wounded veterans climb the worlds highest peaks and find a renewed purpose and belief in themselves. ,
The annual Climb for Heroes event is a family-friendly day hike accessible to people of all fitness levels and age groups. Children, elderly and dogs have participated. There are four "Camps" en route and one at the summit. At each camp, hikers receive a token from a THP Veteran that can be turned in later for prizes. You have the chance to talk to these amazing folks, thank them for their sacrifice, and even take photos.
In 2017, Team Adventure 16 hiked and raised $5200 to help support THP's long-range goal of creating outdoors physical therapy/training for wounded service members and veterans. This will be my fourth year as "Captain" of Team Adventure 16. Also joining me are WLA's Joe Flores (his second Climb) and WLA Asst. Mgr. Zachary Crocker. Our team also includes former A16ers, A16 clients, friends, and former Sierra Club Wilderness Travel Course alumni.
The Heroes Project inspires our injured military veterans to find purpose, both physically and mentally, and ignites others to do the same. In my time as a participant, I’ve never seen so many people thanking veterans for their service. These warriors get to feel the love and gratitude from their fellow Americans. I’m looking forward to hiking with my friends again this year in support of my fellow veterans.
