Purple Flowers blooming on top of cactus

Like many San Diegans, my friends and I headed out to Anza Borrego to see the multitude of flowers blooming.  We arrived at the Visitors Center at 8:30am and begin our 7.5 round trip hike toward Palm Canyon.

When we reached the trail head, we were advised by a volunteer ranger to take the alternate trail to get better views.  That trail was a little steeper and a bit more challenging than the main trail, but it was great advice as we came very close to two groups of sheep grazing along the way.

We hiked to where the alternate trail meets the main trail and enjoyed cooling down a bit in the stream.  The view of the desert floor was really spectacular with all the color from the blooms.   Next time I will go a little earlier in the day and take more water.  It was really wonderful to see so many people out there, especially families, enjoying their experience as much as we did!
